Brighton wore t-shirts in support of team-mate Enock Mwepu, who was forced to withdraw from the game this week ahead of Friday night’s game in Brentford.
Mwepu, 24, announced his retirement from the game this week after a series of screenings revealed a hereditary heart condition that puts him at significant risk of fatal heart disease if he continued to play.
The Brighton players came out for their warm-up and donned shirts with the message ‘CHAMBISHI TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE, YOUR DREAM CAME TRUE’. WE ARE ALL WITH YOU.’
The shirts worn by the Brighton players featured Enock Mwepu’s face, alongside his jersey number and a message on the front.
The Brighton were rocked by the news this week with Mwepu an important and popular member of the squad who have started the season in an impressive way.
Adam Lallana spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the game at the G-Tech Community Stadium that the news was ‘tragic’ and that it put the team’s life in perspective.
“Of course tragic news. We found out three or four days ago. It gives a huge perspective in life and what matters,” he said.
“It gives us more of an incentive to get three points.”

Brighton confirmed this week that midfielder Enock Mwepu had been forced to withdraw from the match
During the week, several high-profile Brighton figures paid tribute to the midfielder, with chairman Tony Bloom telling Mwepu he would retain all the ‘love and support’ he needed in taking his next steps.
“We are all devastated by Enock. He and his family have had a traumatic few weeks and while we are grateful that he got through that period, he cut such a promising career at such a young age,” he said.
“As a club we will give him all the love, help and support we can to make a full recovery and then as he decides on the next steps in his life.”
Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi, who took over the club only last month after Graham Potter’s departure to Chelsea, echoed Bloom’s words.

I’m so sorry for Enock. Before arriving I looked at the whole squad and he was a player that I was so excited and looking forward to working with,” he said. “We’ll do everything we can to help him.”
Mwepu, a Zambian international, arrived in Brighton last year and enjoyed an impressive first campaign in a Seagulls shirt.
He has made six appearances in the Premier League this season, including in Brighton’s famous opening day win over Manchester United. His last appearance for Brighton came in a 5-2 win over Leicester in early September.
