Brighton hold further talks over a move for Mohammed Kudus but Ajax are holding out for £40m

Brighton are in further talks over a move for Mohammed Kudus, but Ajax are waiting for £40 million… while Seagulls’ striker Abdallah Sima remains in loan talks with Rangers

Brighton have held further talks about a move from Ajax striker Mohammed Kudus, but the Dutch club wants £40 million.

The Ghanaian star has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, with fellow Premier League side Manchester United also said to be interested in a deal.

However, should the Seagulls win that particular race, they will break their club record for a single player for the second time in the same period.

Brazilian striker Joao Pedro joined Watford’s Europa League qualifiers for a record £30million fee, and any deal for Kudus is likely to go beyond that in what could turn into a costly summer at the Amex Stadium.

The club is expected to receive offers for Moises Caicedo – with £60m bids from Chelsea believed to have already been rejected – and all funds will be used to strengthen the squad.

Kudus has also had interest from Everton and Liverpool in the past and would like to leave Amsterdam this summer with a preference for a move to the Premier League. The player has reportedly turned down a one-year contract extension with Ajax.

Brighton are looking for an attacking player. Alexis Mac Allister leaves for Liverpool earlier in the transfer window on a £35 million deal and Kudus – who plays in a similar role – could be a good addition to the squad.

In what was a poor campaign for the Dutch titans – finishing third some 13 points behind title-winning Feyenoord – Kudus could at least shine offensively.

The 22-year-old finished the season with 18 goals to his name, including 11 and four assists in the league, and a further four goals in the Champions League.

Brighton’s Abdallah Sima remains in talks with Rangers over a loan move as Rangers boss Michael Beale looks to increase his attacking options ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Senegalese striker – blessed with a frightening pace – is yet to make another appearance for the South Coast outfit.

He joined from Slavia Prague in 2021 in a deal worth around £6.9 million, and has been loaned out twice; first to Stoke City and later to Angers in Ligue 1.

In 37 games with the French team, relegated to Ligue 2 after finishing at the bottom of the top flight, Sima has scored just six goals and two assists, but at 22 he has plenty of time to develop under the right guidance.

Sima still has two years left on his contract at Brighton but does not appear to feature in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans for next season as talks are underway for a move to Ibrox.

With Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent leaving the Scottish club this summer, manager Michael Beale must refresh his attack with Antonio Colak, who impressed with 18 goals in his debut season and attracted interest.

That leaves only Kemar Roofe, Fashion Sakala and new addition to Atalanta Sam Lammers as attack options.

They have already been busy securing deals for Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Jack Butland during the transfer window as they try to break Celtic’s stranglehold on Scottish football after another Treble last term.
