Brighton complete £16.3million signing of Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen… and club announce transfer with funny Simpsons themed reveal video

  • Brighton have signed Netherlands Under-21s goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen
  • The 20-year-old will be the Seagulls’ fourth major signing this summer
  • Verbruggen was named Anderlecht’s player of the season 2022-23

Brighton has taken over Netherlands Under-21 goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht for 16.3 million pounds.

The Premier League club announced the transfer with an amusing Simpsons-themed video, playing on the fact that he shares his first name with Bart Simpson.

The clip begins with “The Signing” instead of “The Simpsons” before Verbruggen writes “I will sign for Brighton” on a whiteboard several times, as the awkward Simpson does in the opening of the iconic TV show.

The 20-year-old Verbruggen has signed a five-year contract at the Amex Stadium.

Verbruggen was named player of the season at Anderlecht last season, despite the fact that he only made his breakthrough in the first team in December.

He helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League and made his debut for the Orange Under-21s last month. He also earned a senior call-up in March.

Seagulls head coach Roberto De Zerbi said, “I am very happy to have signed Bart.

“He is used to playing a kind of football similar to ours and he will have no problem fitting into our group.
