Brighton 1-1 Burnley: Simon Adingra rescues a point for Roberto De Zerbi’s side after Wilson Odobert opener

  • Wilson Odobert put Burnley ahead just before half-time with an excellent finish
  • Simon Adingra equalized with a header halfway through the second half
  • It won't hurt Arsenal to have Arteta out of sight at Villa Park It all starts

Simon Adingra came to Brighton's rescue and headed home a late equalizer to earn them a point against Burnley and keep their remarkable scoring run going.

Vincent Kompany's Burnley led through Wilson Odobert's attack in the first half and managed to keep Brighton at bay as the clock ticked towards full-time.

But Brighton's relentless pressure was finally rewarded with just thirteen minutes remaining when Adingra nodded in the Seagulls' equalizer.

The result was that Brighton scored in 32 consecutive Premier League games, a feat only achieved by three other teams, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

The frustration for Roberto De Zerbi was that his side ultimately failed to score once more given all the chances they created.

There may have been some regret for Vincent Kompany too, even though every point will help.

His side had their backs against the wall for most of the match and were indebted to goalkeeper James Trafford for a string of saves.

But they led for so long and the finish line wasn't far away when they were finally pinned again.

A strong start and finish in the opening 45 minutes saw Burnley gain another three valuable points at the halfway point.

They started on the front foot, with Johann Gudmundsson curling just wide of the far post after a powerful strike from Sander Berge's midfield.

And they put an end to it when winger Wilson Odobert succeeded where Gudmundsson failed.

He cut in from the opponent's flank, moving away from Pascal Gross and Simon Adingra before finding the top corner with a shot that cost James Milner a light tap.

Between those two tries for Burnley, it was Brighton who looked the most likely goalscorer.

Adam Lallana's scuffed shot went perfectly towards Evan Ferguson until Charlie Taylor appeared to kick away.

Gross sent a header into the roof of the net and had a close-range shot cleared away by James Trafford before Taylor came to Burnley's rescue by blocking Adringra's shot.

Milner was denied by the busy Trafford, Jan Paul Van Hecke headed narrowly wide and Mahmoud Dahoud shot over from outside the penalty area.

But despite all their efforts, Brighton were one down at half-time.

Shortly after the restart, it was almost two o'clock when Odobert turned back and forth to create space to shoot, his attempt was stopped by Bart Verbruggen and Jay Rodriguez was unable to convert the rebound despite two attempts.

Vincent Kompany's frustration at having such a presentable opportunity turned down was evident. Especially now that Brighton is becoming increasingly dominant after signing Kaoru Mitoma.

It took a while for their possession to translate into a dangerous effort on Burnley's goal when Mitoma converted just after the hour mark. Evan Ferguson then headed Van Hecke's cross wide, before failing to make the right connection as another Mitoma cross came his way.

Brighton's wait seemed to be over when Joao Pedro's strike from Gross' cross ran through to Adingra.

But as the ball bounced towards the unmarked winger, Trafford was quick off his line and blocked his shot.

Forget it. Just a few minutes later, and from the same source, a left-wing Gross cross, another chance came for Adingra and this time he took it with a downward header.

There was still plenty of time left for a winner. In a goal battle, after double-headed efforts from Jack Hinshelwood, their midweek match winner against Brentford, a Billy Gilmour slip and further chances for Ferguson and Mitoma Brighton almost got one.

But Trafford in particular had other ideas.
