“Part two is out now, we put our heart and soul into it, I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did filming it #PolinForever,” she captioned the photos.

The behind-the-scenes Insta photos showed Nicola and Luke giving the camera a thumbs up as they posed with the damaged chaise lounge.

The hilarious post received a flood of comments from fans of ‘Polin’ – the couple’s name given to Penelope and Colin.

Nicola’s good friend, Queer Eye star Jonathan van Ness responded with laughing emojis, while another fan joked: “We can all say that scene broke us.”

Nicola previously revealed: ‘I think we’ve won the sass for this series!’ as she teased that she and Luke had damaged the set with their on-screen romptells Entertainment Weekly:

‘We broke a piece of furniture during a scene. It’s kind of like a stunt where they say, ‘Okay, we’re going to do this, this and this.

“But then they gave us freedom and we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do. That makes you feel quite powerful.

‘So we felt great. They were actually really nice. I didn’t think they would be. It was fun.’

Although Nicola previously revealed that this part would be more exciting than ever, viewers had to wait until the closing moments of part one for the central love story to really get underway, as things heated up between the couple in the carriage.

But now that the couple has finally declared their love, it seems the young lovebirds couldn’t hold back as they got into passionate scenes.

Penelope and Colin’s sex scene comes in episode five of the series, where fans went wild for the spicy romp, with one token: ‘I SCREAMED I KNEW. ON THE COUCH;’ thought this show was PG13?!?!?’

‘oh episode 5 went from 0 to 100 quickly lmao’; ‘I just watched episode 5 and all I want to say is: oh my god’; ‘Boobs on my screen, this is crazy’.

“Omggg, these two just make me scream, giggle, kick my feet, and cry all at the same time!!! I love you POLIN!! I LOVE YOUUUU!!”

But that racy six-minute sex scene between Penelope and Colin has divided critics, being labeled both ‘cringe-inducing’ and ‘one of the sexiest moments on television’.

While Variety’s Aramide Timudu called the scene the “sexiest thing seen on television since Bridgerton series one,” Evening Standard’s Vicky Jessop felt the highly anticipated Regency romp left a little to be desired.

“This isn’t steamy,” she said. “Watching it feels like watching two teenagers struggle through an awkward clinch.”

Critics’ opinions on part two were largely limited to episodes five and six, with Netflix guarding the final two ahead of its main release on Thursday.

Vicky gave part two a scathing two-star review, asking: “Is Bridgerton losing its touch?”

The critics’ thoughts on Bridgerton series three, part two

Evening standard

Judgement:

Vicky Jessop: ‘This is not steamy. Watching it feels like watching two teenagers navigate their way through an awkward clinch. Is Bridgerton losing its touch? Francesca’s love affair with Lord John Stirling is worth a nap – all those awkward silences! Yeah, we get it, they’re shy!’

The Telegraph

Judgement:

Anita Singh: ‘Apart from Penelope’s heaving bosom, however, this third series remains a dud. Her extended sex scene with Colin has a cringe-inducing quality – think EL James’ Fifty Shades with all the terrible dialogue but no nipple clamps. Without the main couple, the plot barely exists.”

The independent

Judgement:

Kate Rosseinsky: ‘The wheels are starting to come off the Bridgerton carriage – and the final two episodes are going to have to be quite dramatic to get things back on track.’

The daily email

Judgement:

Christopher Stevens: ‘Stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have been promising for weeks that Bridgerton will go all out this time, in two newly released episodes. And they weren’t lying…although for such an explicit sex scene, it was also strangely chaste.”

The times

Judgement:

Carol Midgley: ‘I call Bridgerton the ‘toffs, t**s and titles’ show, but another t-word comes into play here: tenderness. Coughlan’s aforementioned boobs should get some kind of award for all the work they do. Good lord, they move up and down in those dresses like a pair of airbags.”

Variety

Aramide Timudu: ‘The primary sex scene between Polin, with a full-length mirror and a chaise lounge, is one of the sexiest things we’ve seen on television since Bridgerton season 1. Fans may still complain about the lack of sensual activity on screen, but this mirror section is absolutely intoxicating and beautifully done.’
