Bridgerton star Luke Newton reveals how he and co-star Nicola Coughlan dealt with their steamy sex scenes and shares his pre-shoot ritual

Luke Newton has opened up about shooting intimate scenes with his co-star Nicola Coughlan as they prepare to star in Bridgerton series three.

The 31-year-old actor plays the third eldest Bridgerton son, Colin, in the wildly popular Netflix hit, which returns on May 3 with part one of the new series.

The third series follows his blossoming romance with Penelope Featherington [Nicola Coughlan] as they navigate and turn from friends to lovers.

Luke talked about how they came to terms with working on sex scenes after years as friends High lifethe British Airways magazine, that it was a ‘piece of cake’.

Luke explained: “Looking back, it was a piece of cake. She’s my friend, so we just giggle about it. There are moments when you come out of your body and think, “Oh, millions of people are going to see this.” But I have been an actor for years. People have seen my performance on stage and other shows, so you feel confident.”

Discussing his close friendship with Nicola, 37, and how they passed the time between scenes, Luke revealed they would enjoy singing along in the morning.

He said, “We used to get ready together in the makeup trailer so we would share playlists.”

Popular choices for the pair apparently included Beyoncé, The 1975 and Shania Twain’s Man I Feel Like A Woman.

During the chat, Luke also revealed what he needs to do before filming a scene, which he says has become a “reset moment.”

Revealing that he has to brush his teeth before filming, he said: “It’s so random when they call me to travel to set and it must be so frustrating for the assistant directors,” he laughs. ‘But it is a reset moment.’

As well as the interview, Luke posed for a stylish photoshoot at Cliveden House, in Buckinghamshire, reminiscent of the Bridgerton set.

Luke posed in a series of striking looks, including a light green shirt and red shorts, which he teamed with a cropped beige trench coat.

He also modeled a red-striped fluffy jumper with distressed white shorts as he stood in Cliveden’s large grounds.

Luke later donned a mustard shirt and yellow sweater, which he wore with trendy cropped jeans and a pair of chunky boots.

It comes after Nicola confirmed she and co-star Luke felt ‘so comfortable’ they would lounge naked together in between filming sex scenes.

In the highly anticipated new season, the actress gets hot and heavy with her love interest Colin.

Nicola has already teased that series three will be even grittier than the previous two, which became famous for their racy moments.

But despite admitting she was initially nervous about having her own intimate scenes, the Derry Girls star has said she and Luke got to the point where they could relax even while naked.

Nicola appeared on the cover of the April issue of Teen fashionlooks stunning in a sparkling off-the-shoulder dress.

Speaking to the publication, she was asked about the veracity of her and Luke’s previous comments about their comfort on set.

In February the pair had spoken to AP about the show’s sex scenes, with Nicola saying: ‘There is so much vulnerability in those scenes and it is also a very important part of the story; they are an important part of the story.

‘But [Luke] really made me feel cared for. As if we really had each other’s backs and even then we could just laugh about it. Like to the point where we just lay under a blanket and were like, ‘We’re really chilling right now.’

Luke laughed and repeated, “Yeah, halfway through the day you just relax and think, ‘I don’t even care that I’m naked.'”

Nicola added: ‘We had the best time. They said, will you get up and we said, ‘No, no, I’m fine. I feel comfortable.’

Speaking to Teen Vogue, Nicola confirmed: ‘Yes, so it’s really funny. That’s true.

“It’s a testament to the fact that we just got to a point where we felt so comfortable with each other. We had just finished the big sex scene, the most intense and involved…. and we just felt relieved.”

She added that it also made sense logistically to only put on a small amount of “not even real clothes” so they could get right back to work.
