Bridgerton actress Ruby Barker shares horrific video of herself falling and breaking her arm while bouldering at a Leeds climbing centre – after turning to fitness amid mental health battle

Bridgerton actress Ruby Barker shared a horrifying video of herself falling and breaking her arm while bouldering at a climbing centre.

Ruby, 27, who played Marina Thompson in the first series of the modernized period drama, shared the shocking moment on Instagram on Wednesday night.

The actress focused on her fitness after struggling with her mental health, revealing to fans that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder just a day before her fall.

Ruby went to the Last Sun Dance climbing and fitness center in Leeds, to do some bouldering – climbing without being attached to a rope or harness, which is a normal practice.

But during one of her climbs, she lost her grip and fell to the ground, landing on her arm.

The climbing center owner told MailOnline: ‘There are no attachments involved in bouldering at all and chains would only be used for rope climbing.’

Ruby had shared a previous attempt to climb the wall before showing a video of the accident, in which she fell backwards and then forwards on her arm and screamed in pain.

After the accident, she uploaded a video of her arm with an ice pack on it, where she was heard saying, “Right guys, that’s me, I’m going to the hospital.” I just came off this one and fell wrong on my arm.

‘I think I’ve dislocated my arm, I’m in a lot of pain and I’m waiting for an ambulance. This is a bouldering guy, but I am very well taken care of. The ambulance will be on the road for maybe three hours.’

Ruby shared an update, revealing that they decided to drive to the hospital instead of waiting.

She said, “So I’m in the car, Alana’s here. We’re going nice and steady. We managed to get into the car and we’re going to Leeds General Infirmary ourselves.’

She was clearly in pain and added: ‘Every movement is difficult. I have a nice splint here. We made a splint from an oat milk carton – keep it vegan – and hopefully we’ll get there safely and without too much exercise. But we are in the car and going there now, so I have a very positive feeling about that.

“As far as pain goes, it’s a solid 10 out of 10 and I have no idea how to keep it so realistic, but I’m strong as we can see.”

Ruby went on to say that a fan warned her that she could have broken her neck before the accident happened.

“I got a comment from a fan who said, ‘Ruby, you could break your neck if you don’t wear the proper PPE, there’s no crash mat,’” she said. ‘Well, there’s a crash mat, this is bouldering you know, you only climb about eight feet, it’s all about how you fall.

‘But the nature of the climb pushed me forward so I couldn’t land backwards, which I should have done. I deleted this fan’s negative comment because I thought, “Oh, listen to this negative Nelly” and it turns out she was right!’

Later, while in the hospital, she gave an update on her condition in the comments, saying, “Dislocated elbow. Possible fracture, wait to sort out the elbow to take another x-ray.’

“From now on I will only be rope climbing, mark my words,” she added. ‘I was bouldering with a crash mat but the impact and the way I fell on my arm just broke it out man x’

Ruby left the hospital around 11pm on Wednesday night, telling another follower: ‘I broke my arm but yeah it was amazing.’

Last Sun Dance declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

The actress has been open about her struggles with mental health since her time on the Netflix show, but in recent months fans have become concerned about her well-being.

Just one day before the accident, Ruby shared a photo of herself with the caption: “Hi, I’m bipolar. I now have a diagnosis, cause for celebration #bipolar #mentalhealth #notalone #lastsundance.”

In November, Ruby slammed Netflix after claiming the streaming site “couldn’t contact her” when she was hospitalized after filming the show.

Speaking candidly about the LOAF podcast On Saturday, Ruby said she had suffered two psychotic attacks, including one shortly after filming in 2019 and another in 2022.

She claimed that she received “no support” from Netflix during her struggles and that there was no “aftercare” even when she suddenly became famous.

Ruby said: “When I went to the hospital a week after filming Bridgerton season one, it was really hidden and kept on the down low because the show was going to come out.

‘During the filming I deteriorated. It was a really torturous place for me to be, because my character was very alienated and ostracized, on her own under these terrible circumstances.

“Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland since I had two psychotic breaks from that show, has even contacted me or even emailed me to ask if I’m okay or if I would benefit from some form of aftercare or support. No one.’

Ruby’s character Marina unexpectedly becomes pregnant while staying with her distant cousins, the Featheringtons, who treat her with disdain.

Marina also attracts the attention of Colin Bridgerton, which arouses the jealousy of Penelope Featherington, who has long been in love with him.
