Bride left fuming after finding out why she was left to walk herself down the aisle when her mom was late for her wedding

A woman was left devastated when she had to go ahead with her wedding without her mother because she didn’t arrive in time for the ceremony.

“AITA (Am I The A**hole) that I started my wedding ceremony before my mom showed up?” she captioned it the post she shared on Reddit.

“The day of the wedding started as usual: I (the bride) was busy inside with the preparations and outside the finishing touches were being put on,” she began her story.

‘When I was almost finished around noon, my mother had to go back to the hotel 20 minutes away to change and come back with my grandmother and a family friend.’

The woman emphasized that the invitation stated that the ceremony would begin at 2 p.m. sharp.

“We were a little late in starting, but it wasn’t that crazy,” she continued.

‘Before I know it, I’m walking down the aisle myself, without my mother, grandmother or any family friend in sight.

The ceremony continues and will be over before we know it.

‘Still nothing, but after 45 minutes they finally come.

‘Then I go to them and tell them it’s over and they missed it and that 2 means 2.

“My mother immediately became hostile and blamed the baker for not having the rolls ready. Then she said they had been held up by a train. My personal favorite was, ‘It’s your fault you didn’t call or text to ask where we were.'”

The woman then said, annoyed: ‘Excuse me!! There were 2 on the invitation again.’

“And don’t forget, the registrar had to go to another wedding after my wedding, so it was a tight schedule,” she added.

“So am I an asshole because I didn’t postpone my ceremony?” she asked.

“Aside: I found out why they were late, she wasn’t done getting ready and was holding everyone up. But she’s mad at me because it’s my fault,” the woman concluded about her situation.

The hundreds of Redditors who responded overwhelmingly called the woman NTA, short for Not The A**hole.

“NTA. You started your wedding on time. I don’t know what kind of poor planning she had when she left and came back, but she didn’t make it, and her reaction doesn’t sound like she really planned on it. I don’t see why you would have to delay the start of your wedding for ANYONE. Sounds like an important lesson she needed to learn,” one person analyzed.

‘NTA – did they have time to stop at a bakery?? They had no intention of being on time, they expected their presence to mean more to you than it did and are upset to see that in real life they are not as important as their own minds,’ speculated a second.

‘NTA and it seems like your mom is a bit of a diva and wanted to make a grand (look at ME!) late entrance. You did well for your minister, your guests and everyone involved in your ceremony. Just go low-contact until she has enough humanity to see that she was wrong,’ suggested a third.

‘NTA… Her lack of planning caused her to miss her own daughter’s wedding. This is a moment no one will forget for a long time,’ a fourth commented.

And a fifth decreed: ‘NTA. 45 minutes late is downright disrespectful. Your mother can pull the wool over your eyes. I bet she’s an arrogant bully in other areas too.’
