Brian Walshe appears in court charged with the murder of his missing wife Ana

The Massachusetts mother’s husband, Ana Walshe, appeared in court today via Zoom for a brief status hearing before his murder trial.

Brian Walshe is accused of beating Ana to death, dismembering her body and disposing of it in a dumpster in January.

Police have been unable to recover his remains; they say garbage services removed them from the dumpster and incinerated them before they could reach them.

Walshe, 47, denies the murder and says he does not know what happened to his wife, who has not been seen alive since the early hours of January 1.

Today, his lawyers complained that they have yet to receive any discovery from the state to help them prepare a defense.

Ana disappeared in the early morning of January 1. Prosecutors say her remains were ‘crushed and cremated’

We have received very few discoveries. Basically we haven’t received anything. We haven’t even received the search warrants, the basics that we should have received immediately,” said Walshe’s attorney, Tracy Miner.

The judge ordered the state to ‘cooperate’ and turn over its evidence.

The case continued until March 1, when Walshe will return to court via Zoom again for a second status hearing.

After that, the next step is a probable cause hearing, where it will be determined if there is enough evidence against you to proceed to a murder trial.

Prosecutors previously said that Brian and Ana were divorcing, but that Brian chose to kill her.

They pointed to a mountain of evidence, including grim Google searches conducted on their son’s iPad that included investigations into disposing of a body and how long corpses take to decompose.

Traces of blood were found on items of Ana’s clothing that were discovered in a different dumpster, along with Brian’s DNA.

Ana, who was a real estate agent, had built a $2 million portfolio of properties before she died.

She lived in Massachusetts with her husband and children, but traveled frequently to Washington DC for work.

Her colleagues asked for a welfare check after she failed to show up for work in January, three days after she was last seen alive.

Brian had also investigated whether a person could inherit money from a missing person.

He has pleaded not guilty to murder and disposition of a body, but has yet to present a formal defense.

Ana’s mother in Serbia does not believe that her once sweetheart son-in-law is capable of such violence.

He wants “official information” from the authorities explaining his suspicion about Brian.

THE EVIDENCE AGAINST BRIAN WALSHE

On December 27, days before she disappeared, prosecutors say she Googled: ‘What is the best state to divorce a man?’

Ana was last seen alive at 1:30 am on January 1 by friends who had been at her house for a New Year’s Eve party.

Just before 5 in the morning January 1Using her son’s iPad, she searched;

  • 4:55 AM – How long before a body starts to smell?
  • 4:58 am – How to prevent a body from decomposing?
  • 5:20 AM – How to bind (bind) a body?
  • 5:47 a.m.: 10 ways to dispose of a body if you really need it
  • 6:25 am – How long until someone inherits?

After shopping for rugs at a home goods store wearing rubber gloves and a face mask, he went back to the iPad to investigate further.

He also spent $450 on cleaning supplies from a Home Depot, including mops, buckets, tarps, drop cloths, and various types of duct tape.

This time, prosecutors say he searched;

  • 12:45 – Hacksaw, the best tool for dismemberment
  • 13:10 – Can you be charged with murder without a body?

Police say he visited a rubbish dump in Abingdon where he was seen carrying a heavy-looking bag of rubbish.

“He had to throw it in the dumpster,” according to police.

Prosecutors tried to trace those trash bags, but by the time they got to them, they had been destroyed in an incinerator at a trash transfer center.

Walshe investigated further, supposedly searching;

  • 13:02 – What happens to hair on a corpse?
  • 13:13 – What is the rate of decomposition of a body found in a plastic bag compared to a surface in the forest?
  • 13:20 – Can baking soda make the body smell good?

January 4

Walshe bought bath rugs, men’s clothing and towels at TJ Maxx and Home Goods. He then visited Loewes.

That same day, a colleague of Ana’s in Washington DC called the police in Cohasset to report her missing and request a welfare check at her home.

Police visited the family’s home, where they noticed that the seats in Brian’s Volvo were down and there was a large plastic liner in the back seat.

January 5

The police returned to the Walshe family home, where they noticed that Brian’s Volvo had recently been cleaned.

When questioned, he said that he had thrown away the plastic liner that they saw the day before.

That same day, he visited the dump near his mother’s house.

January the 8th

Walshe is arrested for misleading the police. A search warrant is obtained for the house, and the police discover bloodstains in the basement. They also found a knife with traces of blood.

The police then searched the garbage container near his mother’s house and found 10 garbage bags that were stained with blood. Inside, they discovered;

  • Slippers with the DNA of Ana and Brian.
  • Rags, duct tape, a medical suit with Brian’s and Ana’s DNA on it.
  • Ana’s Hunter Boots
  • Ana’s Prada bag
  • Ana’s vaccination card against COVID-19, with her name
