Brian Cox has spoken of the challenges of Hollywood, describing it as a “tough place to live” and “the worst place in the world to raise female children.”

The Succession star, 76, commented on the MeToo movement and how wealth can make you “guilty” in the spotlight in a new extended interview.

He said he believes Hollywood “exacerbates” the pressure on young women, describing it as the “worst place in the world to raise female children.”

Fame: Brian Cox has spoken of Hollywood’s challenges, describing it as a “tough place to live” and “the worst place in the world to raise female children”

‘[Hollywood is] a very difficult place to live, and [it] is the worst place in the world to raise female children,” he said The Telegraph.

“There’s so much pressure on young women already, and it only makes them worse.”

Brian shares his two oldest children – Alan, 52, and Margaret – with his ex-wife Caroline Burt, while he also has sons Orson, 20, and Torin, 18 with wife Nicole Ansari-Cox.

In the interview, Brian went on to say that there is pressure for women to look a certain way and can be “sexualized” in Hollywood, while reflecting on a MeToo meeting he attended.

Busy: Brian (pictured with his daughter Margaret) said Hollywood is “exacerbating pressure on women” as he described it as the “worst place in the world to raise female children”

He explained that he arrived late and stood in the back as “intense Hollywood women” listened to journalist Ronan Farrow speak about his reveal of Harvey Weinstein and top figures in US media.

After the meeting, which took place shortly after Brian won his Golden Globe in 2020, he said that people immediately started filming him and asked him to tell them to fuck off as his follow-up character Logan Roy.

He said he wondered if it was “appropriate” to do this right after a MeToo meeting, as he criticized Hollywood’s “tokenism.”

“This is the problem – that people do things on a symbolic level, I think that’s questionable,” he added.

The Scottish star also spoke about finding success and wealth in Hollywood, saying that although he is a huge TV star, he is not “one of them” or a “multimillionaire.”

He said that while money makes people “safe,” it also makes them “guilty,” and says everyone suffers from their exposure to money in one way or another.

Brian said he tends to “fly in public” and his vices his clothes as he talked about what he does with his own money.

As for the bequeath of his four children, Brian said he believes his property will be divided among his children.

Wealth: Brian (pictured with wife Nicole in 2022) also spoke about finding fame, saying that money makes people ‘safe’ but also makes them ‘guilty’

Reflecting on his own upbringing, Brian said he grew up as the youngest of five children and had a “happy” childhood until his father died suddenly when he was eight years old.

Shortly after, his mother had a breakdown and Brian was raised by his older sisters and they discovered that their father only had £10 after giving his money away.

Brian said he had a “beautiful” life as a child, even though they all lived in two bedrooms, discussing how people no longer have a sense of “connection” or “community.”

Family: Brian shares children Alan, 52, and Margaret with his ex-wife Caroline Burt, while he also has two sons – Orson, 20, and Torin, 18 (pictured in 2015) – with wife Nicole Ansari-Cox

But he said he doesn’t want a promise of inheritance to be too much of a “safety net” for them and said he still wants them to get out and “work their way out of it.”

His final comments come after Brian returns to Succession for a fourth series, with a first look at the trailer catching a glimpse of the highly anticipated show.

Production on the series began this summer and while an official release date has yet to be revealed, the show is expected to air next year.

Not much is given away in the short clip, but it’s clear that tension is still brewing within the Roy family as they continue to battle for control of Waystar Royco.

At the end of last season, the series ended with the ruthless Waystar CEO/family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) withholding control from his children: Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kiernan Culkin), Conor (Alan Ruck), and Shiv ( Sarah Snook).

It looks like Logan isn’t going to give in to his kids once the teaser sees him yell, “This isn’t the end. We’re killing the opposition.’

The teaser clip comes after it was revealed that the show will be temporarily postponed from its usual location in the concrete jungle of Manhattan.

For season four, the Emmy-winning drama will move at least some of its dealmaking and family pursuit to the Scandinavian mountains of Norway, according to Variety.

The Norwegian setting will set the stage as the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech mogul Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) draws near and members of the Roy family travel to Matsson’s homeland.

An official synopsis for the upcoming series reads: “In its 10-episode fourth season, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson is getting closer and closer.”

“The prospect of this seismic sale is causing existential anxiety and family division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is done.”

The synopsis concluded: “A power struggle ensues as the family weighs a future in which their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

Additional cast members were also confirmed for the new season.
