Brian Austin Green talks ‘challenge’ of raising his gay son Kassius, 21: ‘I really wanted to understand the things that seemed so different’

Brian Austin Green candidly discussed the “fascinating” experience of raising his gay son Kassius, who is now 21 years old.

The actor shares Kassius, the eldest of his five children, with his ex-girlfriend and Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Vanessa Marcil.

He talked candidly about his son’s sexual orientation on the podcast Frosted tips hosted by NSYNC alum Lance Bass, who is also gay.

During a freewheeling conversation, Brian shared that “my son being gay” was initially a “challenge” because it was a venture into the “unknown.”

To bridge the knowledge gap, he started “conversations” with his son to “understand the things that seemed so different to me at the time.”

Lance praised Brian for being “so open-minded,” and described Kassius as “so lucky to be with your family.”

He noted that “so many children don’t understand that, and even when their parents accept them, there are many times when the child still knows they still don’t agree.”

Shortly afterwards, Brian confessed, “It was a challenge, just because, honestly, because my son was gay, it was just unknown to me.”

He then clarified, “But I’m not. I think a lot of people are afraid of the unknown, while I am not. I find it intriguing and I want to know more about it.’

Brian recalled, “So it was like, I would strike up conversations with Kash, where it was like I really wanted to understand the things that seemed so different to me at first, and then you realize, ‘Oh, this It’s not different at all . Like, it’s just your choice of partner and your – it doesn’t affect me at all.”

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actor stated, “And that’s exactly what I’m always trying to beat into people now. It’s like it doesn’t affect you.’

He added, “Why do you care so much and why are you somehow trying to bully your feelings and your opinions into something that literally doesn’t affect you at all?”

After welcoming Kassius into the world, Brian married Transformers bombshell Megan Fox and had three sons with her: Noah, 11, Bodhi, nine, and Journey, seven.

After Megan and Brian’s marriage fell apart and she started dating Machine Gun Kelly, he started dating Dancing With The Stars pro Sharna Burgess.

Brian became a father of five last year when Sharna, 38, gave birth to their son Zane, who celebrated his first birthday in June.

During Sharna’s pregnancy, she had to care for Brian, who was bedridden for weeks with a recurrence of ulcerative colitis.

A few years ago, he struggled with the disease for four and a half years, which sometimes left him unable to read, write or even speak.

On a recent episode of Brian and Sharna’s podcast Old-ish, they criticized Vanessa for the way she handled co-parenting Kassius while Brian was sick.

“Those years he couldn’t go to Kassius, Vanessa made no effort to make sure Brian had time for him,” Sharna claimed.

“Instead, she portrayed him as an absent father who chose not to be there for him. And I’m sure that information was passed on to Kass, and I can’t imagine how damaging that was to him,” the professional hoofer further claimed.
