Brian Austin Green reveals he had a vasectomy shortly after the birth of fifth child Zane: 'I think it's time to close up shop'

Brian Austin Green says he had a vasectomy after having his fifth unplanned child.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actor, 50, made the revelation on Tuesday's edition of his iHeart Radio podcast Old-ishwith his co-hosts, fiancée Sharna Burgess, 38, and Randy Spelling, 45.

Green and Burgess welcomed their one-year-old son Zane in June 2022, the actor's fifth child: He is also father to sons Kassius Lijah, 21, with Vanessa Marcil, 55; and Noah, 11, Bodhi, nine, and Journey, seven, with ex-wife Megan Fox, 37.

“Zane was born and I was like, 'I think it's time to close up shop,'” said Green, who went Instagram official with the professional dancer in January 2021 and got engaged last July.

The topic came up after Green — who was previously married to Fox for more than nine years until their split in 2020 — and his co-hosts were asked in a fan email if they were open to having more children.

'I have five children, Sue. Who do you think you're asking a question like that?' Green said, adding that none of his children were the result of planned pregnancies.

The actor said: 'Funny story – I didn't really make plans for my kids – every time it was, “Oh, it's okay. We can do this.”

“I love my kids and I wasn't against any of them, but I've never experienced the situation where you look at a pregnancy test and hope it's positive and prepare yourself that way.”

Burgess, who said she was on birth control at the time she and Green conceived Zane, leaving the door open to the possibility of having more children through alternative methods.

“If we do it again, I want the experience of us planning it together, taking the pregnancy test and actually going on the journey together,” Burgess said. “So then we should probably do IVF.”

Burgess said she was grateful to Green for the vasectomy because she said birth control was taking a toll on her health.

“It was a beautiful thing that Brian did because birth control always made me feel crazy,” the Australian-born entertainer said. 'So I was very grateful for that. It was such a big and beautiful thing he did, and it brings comfort and no stress to our sex life; don't worry about whether we are or not, which is such a gift.

“And we can move forward and make plans to see if that's in the stars for us.”

Burgess posted a family photo of himself with Green and all five of his children last Christmas Day.

She mused on the challenges of putting together a festive group photo in which all subjects are posed in harmony.

'ONE damn useful photo!' the Dancing with the Stars alum captioned the shot. “I have about 300 photos from today on my phone and these are the ONLY (barely) usable photos where we're somewhat looking in the same general direction.

'And hardly anyone blinks an eye. Or make a face. And at the same time, I wouldn't change a thing about us. As long as I get ONE damn photo. And if you can't beat them… then join them.'

Green on Tuesday praised his 90210 costar Ian Ziering for his fitness in fending off multiple attackers after a traffic altercation on Hollywood Boulevard Sunday.

“My son Ian Ziering got into a fistfight on Hollywood Boulevard with like five guys, and he gave a damn about beating them, did it, did his thing,” Green said. 'He's a monster.

'He's bloody incredibly fit, that's for sure. I wouldn't recommend anyone fight people, especially right now in this climate. But you know what? It all turned out fine. Z, I love you brother, you are an animal, you are doing well.”
