Brentford 2-2 Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou’s side fight to a point in their first game without Harry Kane as they can’t find a winner after a tense first half
Tottenham’s first game without Harry Kane ended squarely as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford in a thrilling encounter on Sunday afternoon.
The kick-off was delayed by nearly 10 minutes due to water shortages at Gtech Stadium, but it was worth the wait as the Spurs flew out of the blocks to take the lead with Cristian Romero en route to James Maddison’s free-kick in the 11th minute.
However, Brentford are known for their resilience and turned the game around in the space of 10 minutes either side of the half-hour mark as a Bryan Mbeumo penalty and a deflected Yoane Wissa strike put them ahead.
The Spurs responded in stoppage time of the first half with a nice long-range attack from Emerson Royal. It was the visitors who pressed for a winner after the break, but Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flek held back attempts by Richarlison and Son Heung-min to give his team a point.
