Jamie Redknapp has claimed the sacking of Brendan Rodgers as Leicester boss was inevitable after the club failed to support his transfer ambitions.

The Northern Irishman’s four-year spell in charge of the King Power Stadium came to an end on Sunday afternoon, with the club announcing that his tenure had come to an end by “mutual agreement”.

Speaking on Sky Sports during the clash between relegation rivals Leicester Southampton and West Ham, Redknapp gave his opinion on Rodgers’ sacking.

“Inevitable is probably the right word, he hasn’t had that spark this season, earlier in the year they had a run of poor results and he felt he didn’t have the funds he would have liked.”

Leicester were notoriously quiet with their recruitment over the summer, with £17m Wout Faes proving to be their only major signing, while Wesley Fofana and club captain Kasper Schmeichel departed for Chelsea and Nice respectively.

‘Something wasn’t right there. I’m a huge fan of Brendan, he’s a top-notch manager and he’ll certainly be back in football very quickly, they’ve looked at it and the situation they’re in and it shows you how crazy football is.

Leicester took the lead against Crystal Palace on Saturday through Ricardo Pereira, but the Eagles quickly regained it after a Daniel Iversen own goal.

However, the Foxes looked destined to secure a point away from home before Jean-Philippe Mateta scored in the dying seconds of the game to give the hosts victory.

Redknapp added that Rodgers would have kept his job without the late loss in Saturday’s game.

Redknapp added that his side conceding the last winner could have turned out to be the death knell in Rodgers’ reign.

’30 more seconds you hang in there, you get a point and you’re probably still on the job. This is how different things can change.

“They probably look at what they’ve done at Crystal Palace bringing in Roy Hodgson, they got a win and they’re in panic stations at the moment as it’s so important they stay in the Premier League.”
