Brendan Pallant: Man who killed Melbourne toddler Jaidyn Gomes-Sebastiao learns fate

  • Brendan Pallant will spend at least 25 years behind bars

Toddler killer Brendan Pallant has been sentenced to 32 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering a two-year-old child.

Pallant, 37, appeared in the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday after being found guilty of the murder of two-year-old Jaidyn Gomes-Sebastiao.

In passing sentence, Judge Jane Dixon set a non-parole period of 25 years.

Jaidyn was attacked in his bedroom at his family’s home in Melbourne’s south-east in September 2019.

At last year’s trial, the jury found that Pallant injured the child during what prosecutors described as a “brief but intense period of stress and frustration” while the boy’s mother, Stacie Saggers, was at work.

Mrs Saggers and Pallant had a relationship.

Judge Dixon acknowledged in court Monday that Pallant was upset the day Jaidyn died because of the ongoing litigation.

During the verdict, Pallant leaned his eyes against the wall as Judge Dixon spoke. He kept his eyes closed for most of the hearing, which lasted more than an hour.

Outside court, Mrs Saggers said her family was pleased with the sentence.

“Excellent. Thirty-two years. Justice has finally prevailed for Jaidyn,” she said.

‘My family and I are over the moon.’
