Brendan Fevola drops live bombshell about Collingwood boss who is under fire after allegedly making shocking racist remarks to staff

  • AFL star Fevola surprised football fans on Thursday
  • Kelly is accused of making racist comments to club staff

AFL identity Brendan Fevola dropped a bombshell on live radio on Thursday when he claimed Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly had been transferred by the Magpies.

This came after Kelly allegedly made a series of racist comments about club staff, including a ‘joke’ about putting a ‘live bloody possum’ in a special area for Indigenous players and calling an elderly Aboriginal person a ‘stupid old woman’.

Kelly is also said to have suggested sending a photo of a “Free Palestine” sign to a Jewish colleague.

The claims were filed last month in Australia’s Federal Family Court by Mark Cleaver, the club’s former head of First Nations strategy.

Fevola said in an interview with Fox FM on Thursday that Kelly’s days at Collingwood are over.

I had coffee with someone yesterday [who works at one of the big AFL clubs] “And they dropped a little bomb on my table,” Fevola said.

‘I don’t know why they did that, because I work in radio. [I have] “Breaking news,” he told listeners on the Fifi, Fev & Nick show.

‘A week ago [Graham] Wright, I think he’s the football manager of Collingwood, has gone on holiday. He’s not coming back to the footy club, that’s already in the news.

Craig Kelly is the CEO [of Collingwood]he has [also] left the football club. No one knows yet.

“I think they were trying to wait until the end of the year, which is Friday night as their last game. ‘He won’t be at the football club next year. Gone.

“It’s probably going to be announced next week. This happened a couple of weeks ago and they kept it in-house.”

However, Collingwood on Thursday denied Fevola’s report and said Kelly remains in his post.

Fevola’s bombshell comes after the Magpies commissioned an independent investigation into their approach to racism in 2021.

Former Magpies chairman Eddie McGuire called the publication of the report “a historic and proud day” for the club at the time.

A week after his highly criticized comments, McGuire resigned after more than 20 years in power.

The Magpies were also in the spotlight when star player Heritier Lumumba severed all ties with the club in 2022.

Lumumba stated at the time that ‘nothing has changed’ following the club’s Do Better report into persistent allegations of racism within the club.
