In her acceptance speech, the 45-year-old screenwriter credited the “beautiful human angels standing beside me” and the rest of the cast and crew for making The Last Showgirl “as personal to them as it has always been to me.” ‘
‘[It’s] a love letter to women, to working mothers, [and] especially for those of us who have been underestimated’, Kate – who wrote the script in 2014 – flowed on stage.
