Breathtaking Aspen mansion owned by tycoon Joel Taubner sells for $65 million $35 million less than $100 million listing

A one-of-a-kind home in the center of one of America’s most exclusive ski resorts has sold for $65 million – a massive $35 million less than its original, ambitious asking price of $100 million.

The sprawling 10-bedroom property is just a five-minute walk from the famous Little Nell Ski Resort in Aspen, Colorado, loved by a host of celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Elle Macpherson, and Elton John.

The three-story, 14,200-square-foot home at 730 S Galena Street came on the market last June and was owned by Detroit-based philanthropist and manufacturing entrepreneur Joel Tauber, who bought it in 1996 for just over $9 million.

Prior to Tauber, the home was owned by American media mogul and department store heir Ted Field.

The house was recently sold, but the buyer’s identity remains unknown.

Many of the rooms have stone walls and dark wood details, with minimalist furnishings to give it a very modern feel.

The property is offered fully furnished – including contemporary artwork and a large statue that stands outside.

There’s plenty of room for entertaining and it’s also the perfect place to thaw out after a day on the slopes.

In terms of space, the main lobby provides a particularly grand entrance, located on the second floor and accessible via a lift and a short paved bridge.

Another impressive space is the open-plan living and dining area, with floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights that provide sweeping views of the mountainous surroundings.

Meanwhile, the master bedroom has equally Instagram-worthy vistas, with the bed facing a window the size of a small movie screen.

Some of the home’s highlights include two kitchens, a game room, a ski room with lockers, and a fully equipped gym.

The property sits on a 1.4 acre lot and features approximately 5,000 square feet of deck and patio.

Aspen is one of the most exclusive ski resorts in America, with some beautiful runs. The city managed to stay sheltered from bad economic winds thanks to a lack of inventory

Rental agent Shane told DailyMail.com that the real highlight of the house is that it offers “the best skiing access on Aspen Mountain.”

He acknowledged to the Wall Street Journal the $100 million asking price was too high.

“The $100 million price was justified, but it was an ambitious ask,” said Shane.

It is located just a few hundred yards from the Aspen Mountain Gondola with true ski-in, ski-out access.

As for the real estate market, Shane says Aspen has managed to stay sheltered from bad economic winds due to limited stock when it comes to real estate.

The current record in terms of sale price in the area was set in June 2021, when hockey player and entrepreneur Patrick Dovigi paid $72.5 million for an 11-bedroom mansion on Red Mountain, overlooking downtown Aspen.

In May 2022, Christy Thompson, the Texas oil heir, sold a mansion close to the center of downtown Aspen for $60 million. The deal was off market.

Meanwhile, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger flipped his ski-in, ski-out Aspen home for $50 million in March 2022, just three months after buying it for $30.95 million.
