Former Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday he is withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race.
He made the shocking announcement Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada during the Republican Jewish Coalition Annual Leadership Summit, as GOP candidates gathered to speak to this voting bloc.
“The Bible tells us that for every purpose under heaven there is a time,” Pence said in closing his speech at the Venetian Conference Center on the Vegas Strip.
“As I have traveled around the country over the past six months, I came here to say, it has become clear to me that this is not my time,” the former vice president said, drawing an awed response from the crowd.
He announced, “So after much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president as of today.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence announced Saturday that he is ending his bid for the presidency in 2024
Pence explained that he originally launched his campaign in June because he “couldn’t delay this campaign” because he saw the need for someone to step up to help the country get out of its “trouble.”
During his remarks about stepping aside, Pence received several lengthy standing ovations from the thousands of Jewish Republicans who gathered Saturday to hear the 2024 Republican candidates speak in Las Vegas.
“Thanks, Mike,” one participant was heard shouting.
