Brazilian riot police were forced to intervene when the referee is ATTACKED on the pitch after Botafogo’s equalizer in the TENTH minute of added time against fourth division club Sergipe as angry players storm the pitch at the regulation time.

Police were forced to intervene late in Botafogo’s 1-1 draw with Brazilian team Sergipe on Thursday, when angry players stormed the pitch to attack the full-time match referee.
Sergipe, who plays its domestic matches in the fourth tier of Brazilian soccer, led the top-flight side 1-0 until the final stages, before referees controversially added nine minutes of injury time to the end of the game.
Once time ran out, referee Braulio da Silva Machado allowed an additional 30 seconds for Botafogo to take a succession of corners, which subsequently led the Rio de Janeiro-based club to a draw at death.
In the Brazil Cup, visiting teams advance in case of a tie, meaning Sergipe was left out of the competition as a result.
Footage soon surfaced of enraged Sergipe players storming the pitch at full time in an attempt to confront match officials.

Even the president of the fourth division club, Ernan Sena, invaded the pitch to chase the referees, causing one of the linesmen to hit him with his offside flag.
Sergipe players and fans also turned to Botafogo coach Luis Castro, who previously managed clubs like Porto, Rio Ave and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Castro and the officials were escorted off the playing field by police.
