Brazen masked thief caught on camera stealing handbag from home of dementia sufferer in her 80s as she slept

A masked thief has been caught on camera entering the home of a woman with dementia as she slept, where he is believed to have stolen her handbag.

Police released CCTV images of the suspect, who was wearing a black face mask over his mouth, dark blue jeans, gloves, a dark jacket and a gray baseball cap. He was also depicted with a backpack in his hand.

He was caught at 5am on December 8 when he entered the home of a woman in her 80s in Chorlton, south Manchester.

The thief allegedly stole her handbag and its contents.

The man in the photo is in the woman’s living room, hunched over the couch, where he appears to have picked up a pink handbag.

Officers are looking for witnesses and anyone who can identify the man pictured.

The masked thief entered the woman’s home in Chorlton, south Manchester, at around 5am on December 8 while she was sleeping.

Sergeant Kevin Thomas, from GMP City of Manchester South Neighborhood Crime Team, said: “A vulnerable elderly lady took her belongings while she was sleeping in her own home.

“An opportunist took advantage of her vulnerability and entered her property, where she should be safe, and her family should be assured she is.

‘The suspect was captured on a camera installed in the living room of the flat and we are urging anyone who thinks they know who the man pictured is, or who saw anything suspicious at around 5am on Sunday morning, to get in touch . with us.’
