Braybrook, Melbourne: Thugs try to break into home while the owners were inside

Terrifying footage captured a gang of armed burglars trying to break into a Victorian home while terrified homeowners were inside.

The group, dressed in black and carrying several weapons, tried to enter Braybrook’s home in Melbourne’s west in October last year.

CCTV footage shows a number of thugs smashing down the front door, with one using an ax to break holes in the glass window.

He was joined by others wielding several other weapons – including a pole – as they repeatedly tried to break down the door.

At one point, a hand of the owner was seen reaching out of the glass and then retreating as one of the axe-wielding men continued his rampage.

After several minutes, the group gave up and fled into a waiting vehicle that had smashed the owner’s gate.

Resident Nayran Tabiei told the Herald Sun about her horrific ordeal, including how she still struggles to sleep.

“I came out of the war to be safe here, and it’s not even safe here,” she said.

Victoria Police have been contacted for further information about the incident.

Chief Inspector Janet Stevenson said investigators had worked ‘tirelessly’ to ‘arrest those responsible for his tragedy’.

“We know Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. “This arrest will not remove the tragedy of this terrible situation, but we hope it will alleviate some of their suffering,” she said.

“We will continue to provide them with all the support they need during this difficult time.”
