Prized Roosters recruit Brandon Smith has revealed the brutal and embarrassing sled he once took from former NRL member James Graham.

New Zealand international Smith, 26, also spoke about the ‘tension’ between him and Dolphins fullback Felise Kaufusi stemming from last Sunday’s first-round fight at Suncorp Stadium.

Last season, the pair were teammates in Melbourne and won a premiership together in 2020, but it wasn’t showing last weekend.

chatting in the the farewell round podcast, Smith was quick to remind the former England international that he holds his own when it comes to verbal attacks on the pitch.

‘I remember you [once] he called me a fucking fat bastard,’ Smith joked.

Chatting on The Bye Round podcast, Smith was quick to remind former NRL enforcer James Graham (pictured) that his sleds were merciless when he played for the Dragons.

A red-faced Graham admitted to uttering those words, before playfully accusing Smith of trying to “do a Kaufusi.” [late hit] about him – hence the harsh words.

Kaufusi’s heartbreaking tackle on Smith last weekend inspired the Dolphins to a historic 28-18 victory against the Tricolors that few predicted before the game.

The veteran hit Smith with everything, and the Chooks’ off-season recruit came in second as the NRL’s newest franchise stunned the premiership favourites.

Smith joked with Graham, he should have put it [Kaufusi] on his ass and told him what a soft jerk he is.’

Speaking on NRL 360 on Tuesday, Kaufusi admitted that he saw red and perhaps needs to control his aggression.

‘He [Smith] I actually got pissed off by that little rascal. I think he pushed me, I looked back to try to see who he was and he just smiled at me,” Kaufusi recalled.

“In the heat of the moment, he got past me and I took a dumb penalty and that’s something I wanted to make up for.”

“I had my chance and I tried to make sure I got it, and I was lucky there.”

‘I wanted to go out and be aggressive and I think I did. He [Smith] I guess he pricked the bear and it was good to give him one back.
