Bradley Walsh makes cheeky quip at BBC rival Alexander Armstrong as Pointless host makes appearance on Celebrity Beat The Chasers

Bradley Walsh made a cheeky comment at the expense of his BBC rival Alexander Armstrong in a famous episode of Beat The Chasers on Friday.

Alexander, host of BBC quiz show Pointless, was one of four contestants hoping to win thousands of pounds for charity.

The other participants were comedians Nish Kumar and Chris McCausland, and Sports Personality Of The Year winner Mary Earps.

First up was Nish Kumar, who took home £25,000 for his chosen charity Choose Love, which supports refugees.

Next up to face the Chasers was Mary, 30, who was playing to raise money for mental health charity CALM, but she got off to a rocky start as she struggled to make an ‘obvious’ answer question correctly.

Then she said: ‘I’m from Manchester, right? So it’s not really ideal if I come back with nothing.’

Bradley, 63, replied: “You’re going home with something, The Chasers will give you a thousand pounds anyway,” to which Mary replied: “Yes and the memories of walking through the (famous) tunnel and then going back.”

But Bradley told her, “Well, you don’t, you’re actually going through it.

“So you don’t even get a chance to go back, you basically keep going through it and the doors open and you’re just forgotten out there.”

Bradley then asked, “Those doors, do you know where you’ll end up?”

After Mary guessed: ‘The car park?’, a very amused Bradley joked: ‘Pointless’, during a cheeky performance on celebrity contestant Alexander’s show, which he has hosted since 2009.

Alexander, 53, was the next contender to join, and it was revealed that Bradley wasn’t funny: Beat The Chasers and Pointless are actually filmed in the same studios.

After welcoming Alexander to the stage, Bradley revealed that he once got red-faced when he accidentally walked into the wrong studio.

He explains, “When I first started working on this show, I accidentally walked onto the set while they were filming Pointless.”

Alexander went on to say that the pair often meet up after filming their shows to “exchange notes” over a cup of tea.

Broadcaster Alexander – who recently took part in The Masked Singer UK – has hosted Pointless since 2009. His former co-host, author and comedian Richard Osman, quit the show in 2022 and was replaced by guests.

Beat The Chasers began airing in 2020. Its parent show, The Chase, has also aired since 2009. Bradley has been the host of both programs throughout their tenure.
