A young boy who launched a large-scale search in a popular beachside suburb of Queensland’s Gold Coast has been found.

The 8-year-old boy was last seen riding a scooter north along the Esplanade between the Burleigh Heads Surf Club and the North Burleigh Surf Club at around 8am Wednesday.

The boy rode ahead of his parents on his scooter before disappearing from their sight within seconds, prompting Queensland Police to issue an urgent public appeal.

He was still missing several hours later when local lifeguards and the Westpac helicopter were called in to assist in the frantic search.

Queensland Police have since confirmed that the boy was found safe and sound shortly after noon on Wednesday, four hours after he was reported missing.

It is clear that the boy and his family are not from the region and had relatives during the school holidays, The Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

A public appeal from Queensland Police attracted more than 1,800 online shares within 30 minutes of posting.

Police have also released a grainy CCTV image of the boy riding his orange scooter down a sidewalk shortly before he went missing.
