A boy has been taken to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car on his way to school.
Emergency services were called to the confrontational scenes on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville in Sydney’s inner west on Monday morning after the boy was struck by an oncoming vehicle in a school zone.
Bystanders gave first aid to the boy until emergency services arrived.
He suffered deep lacerations to his forehead and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Mick Corlis described the scene as ‘quite confrontational’ as he gave a timely reminder to all motorists driving in school zones.

There is a 40km/h speed limit in NSW school zones during school drop off between 8:00am and 9:30am and pick up period from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.
“This child had a deep gash on his head when bystanders gave first aid,” Detective Inspector Corlis said.
Paramedics then arrived and controlled the bleeding.
The incident was one of three accidents to occur in school zones in Sydney on Monday morning.

“Fortunately, none of the children were seriously injured,” said Inspector Corlis.
“It is a reminder to motorists to exercise extreme caution in school zones.
There are a lot of people around, especially children who can unexpectedly hit the road or suddenly appear behind buses or large vehicles.’
