A teenager has been found dead inside a car that caught fire in a car crash on Christmas Eve.
The gold Nissan Tiida crashed into a tree at the intersection of Marine Terrace and Point Street in Geraldton, Western Australia, shortly before 11am on Saturday.
WA Police confirmed they responded to a call about a car going dead at 11am on the main road in the West End suburb of Geraldton.
A teenager has been found dead inside a car that caught fire following a car crash on Christmas Eve.
After the emergency services extinguished the fire, the police recovered a body from inside the car. western australia informed.
The deceased was identified as a 17-year-old boy, whom police confirmed died of his injuries at the scene.
Detectives also confirmed that no other people were involved in the accident.
“Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene and are requesting witnesses,” police said.
Tributes to the anonymous teen have been posted on social media since Christmas Eve.
‘My genuine and heartfelt apologies to the family. He was an incredible son, brother, nephew and athlete,” read one.
Another woman claimed that her husband tried to reach the young driver inside the car.
‘My husband was there and now it’s a complete mess that he’s not handling at all. As he just wanted to help and get the person out. My condolences to such a tragic family,” she posted.
Investigators are looking into the crash and witnesses were urged to call the police.
