DENVER — A 12-year-old boy was trapped and killed after a truck left the road and fell into a river in the Rocky Mountains west of Denver, authorities said Sunday.
The truck was submerged in the river when police arrived at the scene of the crash Saturday evening and found two women with cuts on their faces and a man screaming for help as they ran up the embankment, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said.
They soon discovered there was another boy in the river, and sheriff’s deputies, local police officers and a civilian jumped in and found the child trapped between a boulder and the vehicle, the release said.
They were able to lift the vehicle enough to free the boy, but even with CPR efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately return a phone call, text message and email asking for more information.
“The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences to the grieving family at this very difficult time,” the statement said.
