Boy, 5, dies after tragic Father’s Day accident in Murphy’s Creek, Queensland

A young Queensland boy who suffered severe burns in a tragic motorcycle incident on Father’s Day has sadly passed away.

Max Knight, five, is fondly remembered as an adventurous kid with a passion for motorcycling.

His grandfather, Tennocyte Knight, said Max rode his Yamaha Peewee 50 bike on their property on Murphy’s Creek Road on Sunday morning.

When his father Harley went to refill the motorcycle’s fuel tank with a jerry can, a fire broke out, possibly due to the hot engine.

Tragically, Max suffered severe burns covering 90 percent of his body and passed away at 7am on Monday.

“Max was a good little boy,” his grandfather, Mr. Knight, said The courier mail.

“He lived life to the fullest, just like his father. It’s been a really tough day for us and we’re trying to process the loss.

“The hardest thing for us as a family was sitting by his bed and doing nothing.”

He was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 7am the following Monday.

Harley suffered burns to about 40 percent of his body, specifically his face, chest and arms.

His condition was serious and he was immediately transported to Toowoomba Hospital for medical treatment.

Harley has since flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Tennocyte says he was put into a coma to stabilize his condition before surgery and doctors don’t want to wake him up until Thursday and Friday.

“The doctors have put him in a coma and said they won’t wake him up until Thursday or Friday,” Tennocyte said.

“He doesn’t even know Max died,” Tennocyte said.

Harley and his son loved motorcycles and were also avid fishermen.

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
