A man has been charged after allegedly shooting an arrow at his young neighbor’s head.

The five-year-old boy had been playing in the backyard of his home on Wingham Circut in Wingham, on the North Shore of New South Wales, on Sunday just after 7pm when he was struck.

Paramedics rushed to the home and treated the boy before he was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene was established and Manning/Great Lakes Police District officers began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Later that night, a 53-year-old man who lived in a neighboring house was arrested.

He has been charged with reckless injury and has been granted a conditional bail to face Taree Local Court on February 22.
