A 13-year-old schoolboy has lost his life after being stabbed to death while on a bus in Staten Island, New York.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon just before 2.30pm near Hylan Boulevard and Littlefield Avenue in the Eltingville section of the city.

The attacker got on the S78 bus and started shouting at the other teenager before stabbing him three times in the chest.

The police in New York arrested the suspect – also 13 years old – but few details were released in the case.

The NYPD’s emergency services unit was spotted at the scene looking under vehicles in the area as they searched for the weapon.

“Every parent’s worst nightmare is playing out in real time,” city president Vito Fossella told the Staten Island Advance.

“This is something that should hit everyone in the gut in a very important way,” he said. “And there’s no place for that kind of thing on Staten Island, in my opinion.”
