Boy, 12, tragically killed in horrifying ski accident on New Hampshire mountain

A 12-year-old boy has died after a horrific accident crashed into a tree while skiing on a New Hampshire mountain popular for its beginner trails.

The boy was skiing an intermediate level trail at Cranmore Mountain in North Conway around 11 a.m. Tuesday when the tragedy unfolded.

Police say the youth, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, crashed into a tree and was found unconscious in the snow. The Conway Daily Sun reported.

Ski Patrol crews began performing CPR and transported him to the base of the mountain, where he was transported to Maine Health/Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The boy, whose name and hometown have not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Both the resort and Conway police have expressed their condolences to the boy’s family following the “tragic loss.”

On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” a resort spokesperson said in a statement to CBS Boston on Thursday.

“The entire Cranmore family mourns this tragic loss.”

Conway Police Chief Christopher Mattei echoed this sentiment, saying, “On behalf of the Conway Police Department and all the first responders who responded, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family members of the 12-year-old boy. ‘

The 12-year-old was one of two children injured in Cranmore on Tuesday, according to the Daily Sun.

A second youth, whose age and gender have not been released, was injured around noon and flown to hospital around 1:30 p.m.

Assistant North Conway Fire Chief Josh MacMillan, noting that firefighters had already responded to seven medical calls as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, said “it’s been a tough day.”
