Boxing star Ebanie Bridges slams new policy of allowing transgender women to compete in female category in 2024: ‘This is wrong on so many levels’

  • Bridges says new policy is dangerous for biological women
  • Bridges says she doesn't care about 'political correctness'

Ebanie Bridges has condemned USA Boxing for a 'Transgender policy' that will allow male boxers who transition to fight in the female category from 2024.

The governing body, which oversees U.S. Amateur and Olympic boxing, has announced it will allow transgender athletes to compete under certain conditions.

While boxers under the age of 18 must still compete according to their birth gender, transgender fighters are allowed to fight in the category of their choice.

They must meet certain criteria, including announcing their new gender identity, completing sex reassignment surgery and regular hormone testing.

Both male and female transgender athletes must have undergone quarterly hormone testing for a minimum of four years after surgery and provided US Boxing with documentation of their hormone levels.

Boxers who have transitioned from male to female must demonstrate that their total serum testosterone level has been less than 5 nmol/L for at least 48 months prior to her first bout.

Bridges, a former world champion, said USA Boxing's decision is “wrong on so many levels” and a danger to biological women.

β€œThis is wrong on so many levels,” Bridges wrote on X.

'I will never agree to this… it's bad enough that trans women are breaking records in other sports like athletics, swimming and weight lifting, but it's a little different than when they break our skulls in combat sports where the goal is to hurt you don't just break a record… but I think it's wrong in ALL SPORT.'

'I have nothing against transgender people, but I cannot push the boundaries in sports. You don't see references or debates about trans men in sports because it's not a threat.

'It's not just about the test levels, but also about their bone density and a lot of other biological factors. Cutting off your bits and adding breasts will not take back the manhood your body went through before you decided you are now a woman.”

The Australian star believes the controversial policy could hurt women's boxing as a whole.

“I don't care about 'political correctness', it's politically incorrect to have a man fight a woman,” she posted in another Tweet.

'And idc (I don't know), that's exactly what it is… this society is too soft… this is our health and safety. The girls have to stick together, otherwise in fifty years women's sports will be filled with male-born champions.”

USA Boxing announced the policy last week, saying in a statement: “The purpose of this policy is to provide fairness and safety to all boxers.”

USA Boxing took the step to implement the policy after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled in 2021 that each sport and its governing body has the responsibility to decide how athletes are disadvantaged compared to others.

Because Boxing's International Federation has yet to determine the eligibility of transgender boxers, USA Boxing said it has stepped in to issue its own ruling with the goal of “the safety of all boxers and fair competition among all boxers.”
