Boxer Gervonta Davis ‘is in PRISON serving his 90-day sentence’
Boxer Gervonta Davis ‘is in PRISON serving his 90-day sentence after violating the terms of his house arrest’ for 2020 hit and run
Gervonta Davis is reportedly sentenced to serve the remainder of his house arrest in jail after being remanded in custody for a hearing on Thursday.
Davis’ attorney Michael Tomko was quoted by The Baltimore banner as confirmation of an “impromptu hearing” on Thursday and the publication said Tomko confirmed Davis will serve the remainder of his 90-day sentence in jail.
WBAL-TV Baltimore said Davis allegedly violated the terms of his house arrest.
Davis was sentenced on May 5 after pleading guilty last year to an accident that injured four people in 2020.
Davis was also sentenced to 200 hours of community service and given three years’ probation.
Gervonta Davis pleaded guilty to four charges related to a 2020 hit-and-run incident
Davis pleaded guilty to four counts in February; leaving the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury, driving with a revoked license, running a red light and failing to report property damage.
Four people suffered various injuries in the crash, including a pregnant woman.
District Judge Althea M. Handy said in February that when Davis pleaded guilty, he did so on the understanding that there is “no agreement as to the penalty to be imposed at sentencing.”
Davis’ conviction comes after his seventh-round knockout victory over Ryan Garcia on April 22 in front of a packed crowd in Las Vegas.
The pair fought at a catchweight of 136 pounds, with Davis improving his professional record to 29-0.
At about 2 a.m. on November 5, 2020, Davis was driving a Lamborghini under police escort after leaving a nightclub in downtown Baltimore, according to the prosecution.
At one point, he reportedly swerved away from the convoy, ran a red light and then struck the passenger side of a 2004 Toyota Solara.
Inside was a pregnant woman, Jyair Smith, along with three other passengers. The prosecution alleged that David made eye contact with Smith but never came to her aid.
