Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola blamed the wind for his side’s 2-1 defeat to Luton Town.

Iraola’s team had taken the lead at Kenilworth Road in the 52nd minute through Marcus Tavernier.

However, Luton responded, with Jordan Clark equalizing before Carlton Morris scored a last minute winner.

After the match, Iraola had a bizarre excuse for the result, as he suggested the weather was a key factor.

Iraola said: “It’s a tough one. For us it happened exactly the other way around: we won games in the last minute. We should have been more ruthless in the first half.

‘The wind was crucial. The first half was in our favor. We had chances. We couldn’t play like that in the second half because of the wind. They pushed and in the end they won the match.

‘It (the wind) affected the game. It was very good for us in the first half and very bad in the second half. We felt comfortable, but didn’t realize (the difference of the) second half against the wind.’

Iraola is not the only Premier League manager to blame the wind after a match, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp having done the same in the past.

In 2019, Klopp claimed the wind stopped Liverpool from finding the net in a goalless draw with Everton.

Then in 2020, Klopp suggested the wind hampered Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Norwich.

Bournemouth are in twelfth place in the Premier League, with 41 points from 31 games.

The Cherries’ defeat to Luton ended their run of three consecutive league wins.
