Bournemouth have inquired about the loan of Uruguayan left-back Matías Viña from Roma.

The 25-year-old has seen his chances limited at Roma under José Mourinho this season, making just three Serie A appearances and 15 games in which he has come on as an unused substitute.

Gary O’Neil is looking to strengthen his team to increase their chances of avoiding relegation.

Their push for Vina comes after they fell through with an ambitious move for Inter Milan’s German international Robin Gosens.

Gosens has struggled to start since a hamstring injury sidelined him for much of last season.

Of his 15 Serie A appearances this season, 14 of them have come as a substitute.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth made their first signing of the January window yesterday, recruiting winger Dango Ouattara for around £20m from French side Lorient.

Ouattara, who has five goals in 11 caps for Burkina Faso, joins on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Bournemouth’s new American owner, Bill Foley, had recently bought a minority stake in Lorient.

They have also made a £10m offer for Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.
