Bournemouth and Chelsea set new Premier League yellow cards record as referee Anthony Taylor dishes out FOURTEEN bookings at the Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth and Chelsea set an unwanted Premier League record in their match on Saturday night as their players collected a combined 14 yellow cards.

The home side conceded six goals and Chelsea were shown eight yellow cards, resulting in a gloomy evening at the Vitality Stadium.

Christopher Nkunku came off the bench to give the Blues a 1-0 win, with Jadon Sancho providing the assist on his Blues debut, but he couldn’t escape the mischievous steps of Anthony Taylor.

Taylor responded strongly to criticism during the match and managers Andoni Iraola and Enzo Maresca also received yellow cards.

Cole Palmer was constantly the target of fouls, with Ryan Christie and Lewis Cook even receiving reprimands for their rough behaviour towards the 22-year-old.

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was shown the most memorable yellow card of the match after he charged and hit striker Evanilson, resulting in a penalty being given away.

Sanchez was shortchanged after a poor back pass from Wesley Fofana and it became a ‘stonewall penalty’, where he brought down the striker, but he recovered to save the spot-kick.

The previous record of 13 yellow cards was set in September last year when Tottenham won 2-1 at home to Sheffield United, with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski both scoring in injury time to seal the win, while trailing with 98 minutes remaining.
