Shoppers devastated after popular $2 item vanishes from supermarket shelves: ‘It’s a worrying trend’

Shoppers are concerned about the disappearance of some of their old favorites from the supermarket range of sweet treats.

Australian consumers have noticed Bounty chocolate bars ‘disappearing’ from stores in recent months and feared the confection had been discontinued.

The missing Bounty bars continue a ‘worrying trend’ of iconic confectionery purchases disappearing – behind a popular Allen’s chocolate and much-loved Five Flavors Lifesavers.

However, a spokesperson for Mars Wrigley confirmed that although Bounty experienced a production issue, the popular coconut chocolate will be back on supermarket shelves in mid-June.

“Our beloved Bounty isn’t going anywhere, but due to capacity constraints at our factory in Europe, Australian consumers may experience stock shortages in some parts of the country,” a spokesperson told FEMAIL.

Australians recently shared their frustrations with the popular purchase on Reddit.

“What’s going on with Bounty chocolate bars disappearing?” asked a shopkeeper.

‘Every time I go to Coles or Woolies I can never find them. I went to Big W and the only area they had them was in the grab stands near the cash registers. Are they being discontinued or something?’

A few recommended alternatives.

“Sorry to be cliché and recommend Aldi, but the Aldi ones are good and made in Europe – so you get good chocolate,” said one.

‘Whittaker’s coconut chocolate!’ exclaimed another.

One woman said she started making them at home.

‘You can make it yourself with three ingredients: condensed milk, grated coconut and melted chocolate. It tastes the same.’
