Boston’s most expensive single-family home has hit the market for $29.9 million, along with some bold design choices.
The 19th-century mansion built in 1882 is located in the Back Bay area of the city, on Commonwealth Avenue.
It’s full of bold design decisions, from a cobalt-colored living room, a chessboard-flavored hallway, and lots of skeletons, not in the closet, but in the shower.
The price tag is the most expensive single-family home for sale in Boston, with more than 10,000 square feet of space, complete with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms spread over five floors.
The current owner, venture capital investor Kevin Starr, is now selling the house after his family moved to the Boston suburbs.

Skeletons are not only in the shower, but also line one of the hallways of the house and can be seen in artwork on the walls, including the wallpaper, which also shows the owner’s fascination with skulls.
The lighting in the house is equally original, with black chandeliers dangling from the high ceilings in the kitchen and hallway.
