A family waited a long night after one of their boys threw out a game baseball – until the Boston Red Sox came to the rescue.

The TV broadcast caught the moment during the New York Yankees’ double header against their rivals on Sunday.

After receiving a foul ball from a fan sitting directly in front of him, the young man – Charlie Mulligan – launched the ball back onto the field.

His brother Jack was distraught about what his sibling had done, while their father Pat was also incredulous.

Both children fell unhappily into their father’s arms on Father’s Day.

After seeing what happened, the Boston team saved the day for the Mulligan family by gifting them autographed baseballs and jerseys.

“Are you mad at him now?” asked commentator Will Middlebrooks jokingly as the camera showed Jack receiving the items.

“He was very excited to get the ball, but so excited that he made a nice throw to the left,” Pat Mulligan told NESN.

“His brother was a little upset but we are recovering and everyone is so nice. Our friend Mike there is the one who gave us the ball, so we’re so thankful to everyone for being so nice.”

“It’s a lot of fun every time we come and he (Jack) likes baseball, and we like this place. Thank you for being so kind to us.’

Boston would go on to win the first double header game 6–2.

Connor Wong and Alex Verdugo hit consecutive RBI doubles at the Green Monster with two outs in a 3-run sixth inning, while Adam Duvall and Justin Turner each added an RBI single for the Red Sox, who also played the opener of the series on Friday won 15-5. and improved to 4-1 against their hated rival.

“It’s nice if you can light up the scoreboard,” Duvall said. “We had that big game a few days ago. We were able to put some runs on the board today. I feel like we’re starting to play baseball.”
