Boston College defensive back Khari Johnson gave a textbook example Thursday night of how to get ejected for targeting.
During their game against the University of Pittsburgh, Johnson was ejected for a leaping, helmet-first blow to the head from Panthers’ tight end Malcolm Epps.
Epps stood up under his own power a second later, no worse for wear despite the barbaric contact.
Pittsburgh quarterback Nate Yarnell placed a perfect pass to Epps, who was well covered by Eagles’ defenseman KP Price.
As he stretched to catch the ball, Epps was met in the air by Johnson, who struck his right shoulder with the back of his helmet.

After a quick review, Johnson was ejected from the game and also assessed a 15-yard personal foul penalty.
The Panthers did not score on the drive where Johnson was ejected.
The NCAA rulebook parameters for calling targeting were all in place, including Johnson leaving his feet and making contact with his opponent’s head or neck area.
The Panthers were already shut out heading into the game, but defeated the Eagles 24-18 to improve to 3-8 on the season.
Boston College had already reached the threshold for bowl eligibility, but fell to 6-5 with the loss.
Johnson is a senior and spent three previous seasons at Arkansas before transferring to the Eagles.
