Boss sparks fury after firing employee over ‘insane’ reason: ‘Is this a joke?’

A boss’s brazen text exchange following the dismissal of a staff member has left thousands of people stunned.

British career expert Ben Askins shared the conversation on TikTok and criticized the manager’s cold-blooded approach.

The shocking messages, allegedly sent between a boss and another employee, begin with the manager breaking the news of the termination: “Have you heard from Matt?”

“No, what happened?” the employee asked, to which the boss simply replied, “I fired him this morning.”

What followed shocked the other employee – and many on social media.

‘What? Why?’ they asked, to which the boss casually replied, “He was fucking useless lol.” [sic]’.

When the stunned coworker wondered if it was a joke, the boss doubled down.

‘No joke. I thought about it for a while, and then he was late twice this week. I’m too busy to worry about whether people bother to show up on time.’

The employee defended his colleague and explained that Matt’s car had broken down, but the boss denied the excuse.

“Just apologies, mate. I don’t have time for that nonsense.’

The conversation took a turn when the remaining staffer brought up a practical issue.

“So what are we going to do without him?” We’ll have to work extra shifts until we get someone in.”

The boss responded indifferently: “I will place an advertisement today. But hey, we’ll have to keep going until we find someone. Don’t worry, we’ve got this.’

The employee, clearly frustrated, replied, “I actually can’t believe this. I’m not sure how the rest of the team will react.”

But the boss once again brushed it off: “It’ll be fine.”

Mr Askins was scathing in his comments.

“I like this kind of ‘Oh, we got this’ attitude.” Shall [the boss] pulling their weight? It seems a bit unlikely to me, judging by everything they’ve said so far.’

He also criticized the manager’s refusal to take into account the legitimate reason for the delay, saying it was “ridiculous” to fire someone without taking his circumstances into account.

‘If someone is consistently late, you can certainly have a discussion, but the idea that you don’t care why someone is late is just weird.

“There are so many legitimate reasons, like your car breaking down.”

Mr. Askins reserved his sharpest criticism for the boss’s apparent boasting about the firing.

“Why is he messaging another teammate bragging and ‘hanging around’ about firing someone? That’s clearly not okay.’

The video sparked a flood of outraged responses from viewers, many of whom were shocked by the manager’s lack of empathy.

“I hate that the boss also started bragging to another coworker,” one woman wrote. “I feel like this violates all kinds of confidentiality. And how can anyone trust them now?’

Another echoed: “This is clearly a passive-aggressive threat to scare his team.”

‘If he was late twice a week and he had been given warnings then that was fair enough, but if it was a one-off mistake because the car broke down then there is no point in firing him. He might file a lawsuit if it wasn’t warranted,” one man commented.

But others sided with the boss.

‘He was late twice in a five-day work week? To me, it sounds like he at least deserves to be demoted or spoken to. If this wasn’t the first time, he’s not a good employee,” one person defended.

“Sounds like Matt was always late and had a bad attitude,” another added.
