A company boss has been criticised for an “illegal” and “disgraceful” decision after one of his employees resigned.

The boss tried to transfer all of the departed employee’s duties to another woman, without giving her a pay raise.

He suggested that she work overtime every night for almost two months to compensate for the 50 percent extra workload.

The boss initially tried to disguise the extra work as a “favor,” but quickly changed his mind when the employee refused, claiming it was “non-negotiable.”

Creator Ben Askins shared a video describing the text exchange between the manager and the employee.

“Hey, I’m really sorry, but I need a big favor,” the boss began. “So Lucy just quit her job and she’s leaving on Friday. I need you to take all of her clients until we can find a replacement.”

The employee was stunned but willing to work with her manager, saying, “Oh my God, I had no idea. How many clients does she have and what does that even mean? I’ve got my hands full right now.”

“She has four accounts that need attention. We’re going to start hiring someone to replace her next month and it shouldn’t take long to get someone in, so I’m guessing it’ll only be 6-8 weeks,” the boss replied.

The employee was shocked.

“I’m really sorry, but that’s way too much time,” she politely declined. “I’m already taking care of eight clients and I’m at capacity. There’s no way I can take on four more.”

Then the boss offered empty consolation: ‘Don’t worry, you’re a superstar. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.’

“What do you mean, I’ll figure it out. Isn’t it your job to figure these things out?” the employee shot back.

The boss admitted that he had no patience for the employee’s angry outbursts.

“Wow! There’s no need for that attitude. I got it by assigning them to you. Now it’s your job to manage your own workload. If you work a few extra hours every day, you should be able to do it.”

The employee claimed she was “exhausted” at the end of her workday, but still asked how much extra pay she would receive to consider the offer.

“There would be no extra pay,” the boss revealed. “The extra hours were just an idea. It’s up to you to manage your own workload and if you can’t do that in normal hours, staying longer might help.”

Furious at her boss’s behavior, the employee claimed she could handle her workload “just fine” but that it was impossible to take on Lucy’s clients as well.

“It’s not optional,” the boss said. “But if it helps, maybe I can get you something to eat and a cab home.”

The employee stuck to her guns: ‘Sorry, that’s not good enough. I’d rather take the train home at a set time and eat my own food. I can’t take on these clients and I’m not going to keep exhausting myself for fun. If you have a problem with that, so be it.’

Eventually, the boss offered to take on two of Lucy’s clients, meaning the employee would only have to work overtime once or twice a week.

Hundreds of people criticized the boss for his illegal management style.

“If my boss wanted me to do 50 percent more work for free, I’d quit too,” one woman wrote.

“And that’s not to mention the fact that this employee is doing twice as much work as the employee who quits,” someone noted.

“We all know they wouldn’t try to hire a replacement. They would have just said she did a great job and moved on,” added a third.
