Cashing in: GSK boss Emma Walmsley
GSK boss Emma Walmsley was paid almost £13 million last year, taking her total income since taking the job to more than £55 million.
The pharmaceutical giant gave her £12.7 million in 2023, including a basic salary of £1.3 million, more than £300,000 in benefits and pension contributions and £11.1 million in bonuses.
That was the largest salary she has received since she started working in 2017. In total, Walmsley, 54, has received £55.3 million since becoming CEO.
Her earnings remain well below those of Pascal Soriot, CEO of rival AstraZeneca. He was paid £16.9 million last year and has received a total of £135 million since getting the job in 2012.
GSK’s turnover rose to £30.3 billion last year, while profits rose almost 8% to £6.1 billion. Shares are up almost 15 percent this year but are largely unchanged since Walmsley took over.
Pay is once again a hot topic in town, with London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) boss David Schwimmer saying this week that British companies need to offer bosses more to compete with US firms.
