We love to see new features added to existing gear, so cheers to Bose for adding a nifty new feature to its Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II via a new firmware update – even if it’s not quite the added extra that most owners might have been waiting on.
The update, which arrived yesterday, gives the user the option to now use each earbud independently of the other (previously only the right earbud could be used separately). This now means that you can use both earbuds separately to make or receive calls, as well as listen to music and videos. It’s not a game changer, but it’s nice to have the flexibility.
This update to the best noise-cancelling earbuds also means you can switch between earbuds when one is empty, so you can keep listening undisturbed.
The new firmware is available through the Bose Music app and can be installed once the QCE II is connected to your phone. But this isn’t the big update Bose promised, so what’s up with that?

We were blown away by the best noise cancellation and balanced sound of the QuietComfort Earbuds II, earning them a five-star review in November.
Unfortunately, while we love this latest helpful update from Bose, it still doesn’t fix our main issue with the QCE IIs, which is the lack of support for high-definition wireless audio.
Bose promised around their release that an update was coming for the QCE II that would make them compatible with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound and the aptX Lossless Bluetooth codec for CD-quality sound, but we’re still waiting to see what a potential its groundbreaking upgrade.
With more and more phones supporting these platforms, and plenty of rival earbuds now boasting the technology, we hope the update stays on the road for Bose owners. look at the best wireless earbuds.
