NIAGARA FALLS, NY — A U.S.-Canada border crossing has been closed after a vehicle exploded at a bridge checkpoint near Niagara Falls.

The FBI’s field office in Buffalo said in a statement that it is investigating the explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the two countries across the Niagara River.

Photos and videos taken by news organizations and posted on social media showed a security booth scorched by flames.

Further information was not immediately available.

Governor Kathy Hochul said she had been informed of the incident and was “closely monitoring the situation.”
