Boomers, will you accept this rose? New reality spin-off The Golden Bachelor will feature seniors looking for love

There’s a new show in Bachelor Nation: The Golden Bachelor — which will help people in their senior years find love — debuting this fall.

Three years ago, ABC launched a casting call for senior citizens for a new dating show and soon the Boomer version of The Bachelor will finally hit the airwaves.

In a press release, ABC described The Golden Bachelor as a series that “will showcase a whole new kind of love story — one for the golden years.”

“In this all-new, unscripted series, a hopeless romantic gets a second chance at love in search of a partner with whom to share the last years of his life.”

“The women who arrive at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. Will our Golden man finally turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?’

The Golden man’s identity has yet to be revealed, but ABC executive Rob Mills shared a fun story about the 2020 casting process.

“Some of the casting interviews we got were just so moving,” Mills recalled Variety. “It’s such a different way of doing things because these people are just in a totally different place in their lives.”

He added: “There is something interesting about people who have come on the other side of the spectrum, who have lived their lives, raised their children, some are widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love. ‘

In early 2020, before COVID-19 shut down the entertainment industry — and the world — ABC teased a casting call after one of the network’s Bachelor Nation shows.

The network aired a promo that read, “Now casting seniors looking for love.”

Mills also explained the differences between the senior and twentysomething cast of the franchise’s flagship shows. To be eligible for The Golden Bachelor, applicants must be at least 65 years old.

One of the changes is that birthplace dates consist of meeting the kids, rather than the parents.

“It’s everything you love about The Bachelor, but everyone loves seniors because they have different love stories to talk about,” Mills said. “It was really fascinating.”

Contestants: All women on The Golden Bachelor are over the age of 65

And Mills also revealed that seniors had signed up for the new show in droves, calling interest in the spin-off “rabid.”

“I have to say we had never seen such a reaction as here,” he revealed.

In addition, the life experience of the older contestants made their applications “so impressive” that the producers knew there was an audience for the new dating show.

The Golden Bachelor airs Mondays at 10 p.m. after Dancing With the Stars. At the time of writing, no release date has been announced.
