The public has been warned to avoid the area for the next few hours
The operation will take place between Spring St and Denison St in Bondi Junction, Waverley Council reports.
This part of Bondi Junction will be closed to all traffic, pedestrians and cyclists for the next few hours.
Local residents are advised to avoid the area.
Several police cars block the street near the Holiday Inn.
A burnt-out car was also found on Macpherson Lane in Zetland on Tuesday morning, although it has not been confirmed that the two are linked.
