Washington DC on high alert as ‘explosive devices’ and Molotov cocktail explode outside Nike store, Truit ATM and Safeway supermarket with suspect at large

A search is underway for the person who attacked multiple businesses in Northeast Washington DC with explosives and a “Molotov cocktail-style object.”

The attacks occurred just minutes apart at the Truit Bank, the Nike store and a Safeway grocery store in ‘The District’. Metropolitan Police Department.

Police are seeking the public’s help to help catch the suspect, and the department is offering a reward of up to $20,000.

There was damage at each location, police said, but no injuries were reported.

Search is on for the person who attacked Truit Bank, Nike Store and Safeway in Northeast Washington DC with explosives and ‘Molotov cocktail style’

The first incident happened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning when someone detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk outside the ATM at the Truist Bank on Washington Place NE and then fled the scene in a vehicle, MPD said.

A few minutes later, at about 4:36 a.m., the suspect detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk in front of the Nike Store on H Street.

The third offense occurred at 4:45 a.m., when the suspect this time threw a Molotov cocktail at the Safeway on 40th Street before fleeing.

The Metropolitan Police said in all three incidents It appears that the suspect was targeting commercial entities, but it appeared that the suspect was not targeting members of the public.

No motive for the attack has been released and police have not released a suspicious description.

The MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.

In conjunction with MPD, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Washington Field Division, is offering an additional $10,000, bringing the total possible reward amount to $20,000 in this case.
