Bomb threats have been made at multiple health facilities in Queensland, with police investigating a suspicious package found at a major hospital.
Police arrived at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital at around 12.30pm on Thursday after reports of a suspicious package.
Officers were quickly able to determine that it was a false alarm and that the package only contained food.
Despite threats reportedly being made against several hospitals, no hospitals have yet been evacuated.
A police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday evening that they were “aware of threats made this morning to multiple health and medical facilities across the state”.
“Specialist officers are currently consulting with partner organisations to determine how many institutions have received this threat and whether it is justified,” the spokesperson said. The investigation is ongoing.
The threats appear to replicate a trend seen in India and Canada, where multiple random targets were threatened but no explosives were found.
In the Indian city of Delhi, at least 100 hospitals and shopping malls received bomb threats by email, prompting police to launch an investigation.
The threats have been labeled a hoax.
In Canada, dozens of Jews received similar emails announcing that bombs would be detonated, but none turned out to be real.
The emails are believed to be intended to create chaos in cities around the world.
A suspicious package was found at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and police arrived at around 12.30pm and were able to give the all clear shortly afterwards
